Story: Maple Fireworks (work in progress)

Genre
Romance, Tragedy

Story
Late into an autumn afternoon as the sun began to set with its golden rays fading beyond the horizon, a young girl lay flat amongst the straw-like grass bordering the river bank, with dark silk hair spread across her neck and arms covering her torso like a blanket.

“Neh, Miyabi, won’t you go to the autumn fireworks with me?” asked the auburn haired boy resting beside her.

Miyabi bolted up as if she had just been pricked by lightning and her hair fluttered after her, “What are you saying Kaede?! Weren’t you planning to ask Yuri-san to go with you?”, surprised by her childhood friend's proposal, she stared blankly with her mouth half open as her eyes scanned the gentle face of the boy lying calmly beside her right hand.

“Not... really” were the simple words that escaped his lips, Kaede folded his arms behind his head then glanced upwards at the darkening pastel orange and blossom coloured sky. He then closed his eyes listening to the small chirps from the bushes, the wind whispfully singing and carrying the scent of warm fragrant rice which signalled it was nearly time for dinner and that it would soon be night.
“Well, i've always liked you and I want to spend this year's autumn fireworks together... if you'll let me” Kaede asked, as he gently shifted his head to face Miyabi, but the stunned silence was making him very conscience of the embarrassing situation.
"So...umm, you might want to close your mouth before the bugs start flying in..." he added giving a small chuckle as he began to lift himself up.

  1. This is actually really really good, I would love to read a continuation on this. Or actually, an entire book?
